The main PatchTool
window, as it appears on Windows XP. Very
simple in appearance, since it is used essentially only to open and export
files, it also presents important information on opened files, in the form of a
small text log. This log data presents what color space was identified as the
best data type for import, as well as other specific information required to
process the data. top

Patch view
Tabular data
The opened file window title is the file name. Each file has
its own window that can be set independently of the others. The features of the
“Patch view” and “Tabular data” tabs are described in the full
size screenshots. Popup menus specific to each view can be opened with a simple
mouse click or a right-click (Command + click when using a one button Mac mouse)
as shown on the composite screenshots. top

Patch view Tabular data Stats
Large data set
A Compare window obtained after selecting two files
using the Select Compare dialog. In "Patch view", a colored border
is drawn around the patches whose difference between the "reference" and
"sample" exceed user-set thresholds. The other features of the “Patch view”,
“Tabular data”
and "Stats" tabs are described in the full size screenshots;
an example of an analysis with a
large data set is also
shown.

The Info window displays data on the file patches as the user
moves the mouse over an opened file window
(in the "Patch view" tab). Clicking on a patch will freeze the information in the
left part of the Info window, and the right part will display the data relative
to the current mouse position. The information includes two user-selectable
color spaces, as well as the patches spectrum (when available) and the color
difference between the patches. An interesting feature of PatchTool is its
ability to compare patches from different files. This is done by freezing one
patch in one window and moving the mouse to a patch in another window.

Display Check Display
stats (Compare)
The PatchTool
Display Check tool is designed to make display
measurements from preset patches or from any color list opened in PatchTool. As
Source and Destination profiles, you can select either a built-in PatchTool
RGB-space or any ICC display profile.
The measurements are presented with the reference values in a PatchTool
Compare window. A Quick-Test consists of
patches defining a neutral ramp with or without ramps for the primaries. You can
also measure user-defined color lists. When selecting a Quick-Test, an
additional "Display stats" tab will appear in the Compare window. top

The PatchTool Select Average window as it appears on Mac OS X; the
window shows all opened files.
PatchTool can average color lists which are defined by either spectrums,
tristimulus data (i.e. XYZ, L*a*b*, RGB, etc.), or a mix of these file types.
The resulting average is a new PatchTool file window which can then be used as
any other opened file. top

The PatchTool
Select Compare window as it appears on Win XP; the
window shows all opened files.
PatchTool can compare two color lists which are defined by either spectral data,
tristimulus data (i.e. XYZ, L*a*b*, RGB, etc.), CMYK data, or a mix of these
file types. The two files must have the same number of patches. The resulting
“Compare” window is similar to single file windows, but contains and presents
the data of both files simultaneously, and offers additional tools which
facilitate data comparison. top

Data export Image
export
Export your color lists as either text or images from the same
dialog window. The window has separate "Data" and "Image" tabs from which you
select the specific parameters of each export type. The controls in the bottom
of the window are common to both export types. top

The BabelColor Color Translator and Analyzer (CT&A)
software is designed to compare and convert colors between nineteen RGB spaces
(such as ProPhoto, Adobe (1998), and sRGB), one user-defined custom space, and
four industry standard color catalogues (British Standard 5252, i.e.
BS 5252 / BS 4800 / etc, FED-STD-595B, Munsell, and RAL CLASSIC), called Color Decks.
Now, using PatchTool, you can create additional Color Decks by simply exporting
a color list to the “ColorDecks.bbd” file used as a database by BabelColor CT&A.
The BabelColor CT&A Export window can be opened even if PatchTool is not
registered; however, a registered copy of BabelColor CT&A is required to access
the Color Decks. top |
